The Chromatic Fantasia and Fugu in D minor, one of Bach’s best known works, is an extravagant work of virtuosity and bold harmonic structure. It is an extraordinary piece – large, sprawling, emotional, and unique in its character. The Goldberg Variations has become an iconic monument in Western music. The music is constructed symmetrically, showing what was possible at the keyboard in terms of technical development, technical, virtuosic finesse and compositional sophistication.
SHENG Yuan
Internationally recognized pianist SHENG Yuan, has performed in more than twenty countries as a recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist. His interest in the music of Bach inspired him to study intensively with Rosalyn Tureck.
The New York Times wrote, “Mr. SHENG’s ear for balance is unfailing… the attraction was entirely visceral.” The International Piano Magazine called SHENG Yuan “the nation’s (China’s) premier interpreter of Bach.”
